1 · Look before interpreting

Choose the street photo, station display or illustrative film. Name it and record two visible details. Then write one claim it cannot establish.

2 · Give a record an identity

From the INA project gallery, note one labelled record: vessel identifier, recorded date, method and source URL. Leave unverified information blank; do not match it to our film by resemblance.

3 · Separate object, record and proposal

Compare a surviving hull, its measured drawing and a newly built reconstruction. What can each help you ask, and what further evidence would you need?

4 · Put the process on a timeline

Place field recovery, documentation, conservation and reconstruction on separate lines. Cite a dated source for each entry. A plan in a 2019 article is not proof of today’s completion.

A way to review your answers

A useful answer identifies its image or record, distinguishes what is visible from what is inferred, and gives a date and source. “I cannot tell from this image” is a valid finding. Compare excavation, treatment and a later reconstruction as separate stages.
